~P to the Burgh yo, what up~
So today I was just having one of those days when everything seemed to be going wrong. It was just one bad thing after the next and each time something new bad happened, it made the previous bad thing even worse. So what I did was grab my one friend and we just walked around Pittsburgh for a few hours. There’s nothing like a nice walk in the fresh air of the city on a Sunday afternoon to help clear and relax your mind. I honestly felt like a big ball of tangled yarn until we went on the walk and slowly I began to untangle.
As we were on the walking we decided to go to the bridge and walk across it over by PNC Park. We both love walking along the river side. We looked over the bridge and couldn’t believe what we were seeing. The highway underneath us was flooded with water from the river, it was crazy! The stairs leading from the bridge down to under it was half under water also! I have never seen a real flood before like that, so it was defiantly a cool thing to see. We looked across the river to the other side and saw that the whole side walk was under water, it seemed so unreal. I kept on hearing floor watched and warnings on the weather forces and couldn’t understand why, the roads here in the city seemed fine and I didn’t think we even got that much rain. Well we did I guess and it sure was weird to see places you once walked on under water and no longer visible. We got to do more exploring of the city, see the flooded river are and help untangle my stress, it was a well worth it walk.
Do we hate smart kids… really??

I somewhat agree with what Penrod is arguing in this essay because some of what she was saying was so obvious throughout high school. Throughout school the nerdy kids have always been put in their own little group together and excluded from everyone else. The one thing that is obvious that I do disagree about is that just because you’re smart and have good grades doesn’t automatically make you a nerd. The so called nerds in my school were the extremely weird ones, or the extremely smart ones that chose not to really be very social. But there were plenty of kids who were good students and chose to be social that were not labeled nerds. A lot of the time the nerds are hated just because they are so smart and so good at their academics that people are jealous and not understanding of why these kids do so incredibly well in school without seemingly needing to put in effort. I believe that you more or less make yourself a ‘nerd’, if you chose to not talk to anyone and bury your nose in a book, that’s your own doing, and people will judge you for it just because that’s how society works now a day. Tnis is why they do so well in school a lot of the time because instead of focusing some on school and a lot on social life they focus on school and studying instead.
Penrod also referenced Sammy Sosa, talking about the crazy high total amount of money that famous athletes make. Although this reference is very true, and it is ridiculous the amount of money they make, she also didn’t mention anything about what geniuses are making. All those nerds from high school turn into multimillionaires like Bill Gates and many others. Yes she may have mentioned the Jocks that turn into famous athletes but she failed to mention the smart kids who make all the money for being smart.
The sources used throughout the essay were mostly from blogs and forums. Usually this would be unacceptable for an academic essay but since nerds are judged by normal day to day people it only makes sense to be referencing them.
Issues with the P Burgh!!!! :p
- Issues I have with down town Pittsburgh...
- 1. Thing closing too early.
- 2. Underage clubs/things to do
- 3. Ai students don't get discounts or free things like other colleges
- I'll start with my explanation of #1. The first thing is that EVERYTHING in down town Pittsburgh closes somewhere between 6-8 and earliest on weekends if you can believe it! Everywhere down town here closes so early which makes things so inconvenient and annoying cause come 9: 00 it's too bad if you had to run to CVS. It also makes things more dead down here because everything is closed. SO my conclusion to fix this problem is for everywhere to close later than normal.
- On to issue #2. If you're not 21 and live down town there is seriously nothing to do! We need more clubs or something that holds 18 and over nights for all of us bored underagers! There is nothing for us to do here down town, especially in the winter. So there should definitely be some kind of 18 and over club opened down here.
- Last but probably biggest issue of all, issue #3, Ai students not getting any perks unlike many of the other colleges in this Pittsburgh area. Pitt get's free transportation from their school, which means free Port Authority buses and free incline rides. Pitt also has their own gym that's free for the students. Point Park gets a discount at Starbucks and the YMCA. What does aip get...? NOTHING, we don't even have a meal plan. For the price that we students pay for school we deserve some of these luxuries that all of the rest of these schools have.
Bizarro
My Bizarro looking in at me, watching my every move.. I’m everything that my Bizarro isn’t and he is everything I’m not. If you’re not quite sure what or who Bizarro is he’s from superman, he’s the polar opposite of Superman…

So here I am watching her sit there all smug doing her homework. she’s obviously finishing it up, I don’t get how she always feels the need to do it all every week, it’s so ridiculous if you ask me. Just thinking about doing my homework makes me want to pull out a smoke.
Oh, but wait, some girl is approaching her and of course Joanne greats her with a big smile and a warm “Hey, what’s up?”. The girl’s sitting down with her and how it looks like they’re having some kind of fun conversation about what their plans are for the weekend. I just don’t get how they feel the need to go out and be social with people instead of just staying at home and play video games all night! Video games are my LIFE! Video games and anima that is, I also love wearing those awesome cat ears everywhere I go cause I know that I look so sweet with them on. O man, it’s been like 4 days since I’ve showered too, I just caught a putrid whiff of myself, maybe I’ll take a shower tomorrow, maybe being the key word, but we’ll see. Anyway I can see them talking still I have no idea about what though, something about some crazy fashion project they have to do for one of their fashion class. Honestly if it’s as hard as they’re saying it is then I don’t even see why they bother even doing it. Anyway I hear “COD” and a cigarette calling my name so I’m going to go outside and smoke one of these Marlboro lights and go home, lock myself in my room and game away!
Descriptive Feature Essay… bleh
To be honest i’m having trouble figuring out what to write about for my essay. I’m not sure if this is because i just don’t know Pittsburgh that well yet to know many places that would work for this out of the ordinary assignment.
The first place that came to my mind when thinking about where in the world i could possibly write a paper about AND do an interview with someone was the Mt. Washington incline. I was interested just because i know that it has a lot of history here in Pittsburgh since it has been there for many many decades. Also I would have someone to interview, such as someone who worked there.
I did have a few other ideas though, one being the one spot where someone is sitting all day long… the security guard at AIP. i think that it’d kinda be interesting to interview him, doubt he’d really have much to say though. So i decided against this topic.
Next topic i thought about doing was possibly one of the museums around here, possibly the Andy Warhol one. But I also decided that could get boring and might have trouble finding someone to interview. So i started to try and think of anywhere else that’d work for this assignment, i thought of one other place…
The last place i could think of was Point Park. Honestly i’ve never even been there but i feel like it could be neat to observe people… but i don’t think i would have anyone to interview… so again wouldn’t work, which is why i’m not the biggest fan of this essay assignment.
Ultimately i am probably going to choose the Mt Washington Incline cause i think it could fit the criteria of the project, and as for the angle i have no idea, that’s yet to be determined.
Life is not the amount of breaths you take, it’s the moments that take your breath away.
Description
With the snow on and around it I can’t believe it’s still going, but like it always does, somehow it still is. Up and down the icy cold rails in on the snow covered track. It tirelessly runs, filling up with people and carrying them up for the ride or driving them down to the bottom. As it slowly creeps up the mountain first time riders always question it making it up to the top.
Looking out of the window there’s an incredible sight to see. During the day time it’s beautiful seeing the point, all of the stadiums, all of Pittsburgh’s tall high rises with their windows gleaming in the sunshine and the river shimmering. Although it costs $2.50 to get up to this site the small fee is well worth it if you’ve never seen this site before. At night it’s a whole new seen. Bright lights light up the city in brilliance. As you’re riding up you get to see a new perspective of the city almost every 15 seconds. It’s a romantic ride up with your with your significant other too.
The inside isn’t the fanciest furnishing though. Once you walk inside you’ll see two wooden benches sitting across from each other varnished in an oak finish, a dirty floor and big windows filling the sides and front. This thing has been part of Pittsburgh’s history for many decades, and I can’t even imagine how many people have filed in and out of them through the years.
52nd Annual Grammy’s
I’m watching the Grammy’s right now and wow there have been some amazing performances and some awesome styles! Ahhhh Taylor Swift just came on!! I love her, she’s so genuine and is such a good song writer. Tonight she’s singing with the great Stevie Nicks; pretty cool collaboration if you as me. They both sound really good, hopefully Taylor wins the majority of the 8 Grammy’s that she was nominated for! They’re now doing a tribute to the king of pop, Michael Jackson. Smokey Robinson, Kelly Clarkson, Celene Deon, Usher and Jennifer Hudson all cam on and sang some Earth some that I’ve never heard, but let me tell you, they did an incredible job. The performance was even in 3D(if you had the glasses)! Then Michael Jackson’s son and daughter came out to accept his life time achievement award on behalf of him. I was definitely surprised to see them because they were always under the radar this was actually the first time i had ever seen either of them.
<—— there they are. anyway you could tell that they were extremely nervous, they kept stuttering their words, understandable though, i’m sure it was really hard for them.
A man named Maxwell just performed… I’ve never heard of him, major snooz fest, it was a very boring performance. They just did tributes to everyone who passed away this year and i just found out that Les Paul himself died:(. But at least he left an incredible legacy of amazing guitars behind him.
<——(Les Paul himself)
The amount of commercials during this broadcast is so annoying! They’re all so long!! Anyway it ended with the best news of all, Taylor Swift won Best album of the year!!! :) so proud of her.
Misconseptions
I had never known much about Pittsburgh, the first time i was here was probably a little over a year ago, and that was to visit the school i now go to. I am so accustomed to Cities such as New York and Philadelphia that i just assumed Pittsburgh would be just like them; and by “them” i mean loud all night long, very dangerous, and scary to walk alone at anytime. Although i soon found that that perception was very wrong. When I go back home on brakes people are always asking me how I’m adjusting to the city and if I like it or not, and my honest answer is that I love it here so much and honestly didn’t seem to see much of a difference other then I walk everywhere instead of drive. The part of the City I live in is so not like anything that I suspected every city to be like. At night it’s mostly quiet other then the occasional siren or bus going bye, but other than that it’s decently quiet. It’s also so dead here on weekends. Everything either stays closed or it opens late and closes early. My friends and I always like to joke between us and say that “New York is the city that never sleeps and Pittsburgh is the city that always sleeps.” I also seem to feel safe here most of the time, I mean of course there are parts of the city we all know to stay out of, but where I live is not that dangerous at all.
here’s the second trailer… try not to let your jaw stay hanging open like that to much haha i know its crazy awesome!
